It is my hope in this book that I can give you a few ideas of what the ogham is, where it might have come from, and how I (and others) use it as a spiritual tool. There is much we do not know about the Ogham. It is not known for sure if the ogham was ever used for divination. And finally, it is not known if the letters were ever used to designate lunar cycles. What is known is that there were many oghams – the letters themselves, bird oghams, tree oghams, etc. The letters being symbols for certain words, not all trees as it thought by most today. What we have is a system that uses several oghams in combination that is not necessarily historically correct but that which works for us as a tool for learning. This book deals with those teachings set in a framework of the lunar year.
Within this little book are complete instructions for creating your own set of Ogham Twigs – a tool to use for divination as well as to learn more about the Ogham. You can make your set as you like it using Popsicle sticks, tongue depressors, or you can create a set such as shown on the cover. You may also gather twigs from each tree or from local trees in your area. Let your imagination be your guide. May the wisdom of the Old Ones be your inspiration.
Annym Billagh is an ancient system of healing, originating from my ancestral path with roots in the British Isles, specifically, the Isle of Man. It is possible that the Druids, in particular, the Bandrui, the women who served the people as seers, healers, and wise women, used something similar. Certainly, whether Druid or not, the techniques of drawing on the energy of Land, Sea and Sky is as ancient as we are as a people. It is based on the knowledge that we are all one, living in a world supported by the Earth at our feet, the Sea, from which all life comes, and the Sky, source of our breath, inspired by the Fire of Inspiration, and blessed by all that is Divine.
This little book of poetry comes form my blog (if the sane name. I have decided to put them all in a little book for my grand children and great grand children (and of course you, if you would like to have them!). They are nature poems and poems evoked from strong feelings!
